1800’s Reform Movements
This project, my friend Logan and I worked on Reform movement that happened in the 1800’s, below is one of our slides on the temperance movement. This project was during our Freshmen Honors American History. The unit was about reform, anti-slavery and women’s rights movements.
For our project we researched prison reforms that let well behaved prisoners have shorter sentences, and making prisons safer and cleaner. The Education reform was interesting too, because the 1800’s is when schools became much like how they are today.
Raisin in the Sun Assignment
This assignment was a simple one, where we just answer questions about the play and then cite the pages. The play was a Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry.
William McKinley Slideshow
For this project, we got to choose anyone to pick in American History to make slides on. We could have chosen Presidents, Athletes, Heros, or even Outlaws. I choose the president William McKinley, because compared to Lincoln or JFK, people rarely talk about his assassination. So, For this project, I did research on his days in the civil war, his work on the Panama Canal, him keeping Spain out of our territories during the Spanish American war, and his assassination.
Mouse Trap Car Slideshow
This project was a slideshow to show our overall work on a mouse trap car we made. We used the scientific method to do our project. So we did research on how to make the cars, then we designed a blueprint. We made a prototype, then tested it. So we keep on improving it and measuring the distance it went to see if we were going in the right direction.
Forensics Slideshow
We learned that organized serial killers are the ones that plan, hide evidence, and don’t kill people close to them. Unorganized are sloppy, leave evidence, kill people close to them and often out of the heat of the moment. Champ was a Confederate who used the war as an excuse to kill pro-union civilians, some being his former friends. I said he was organized because he planned his murders, but he has some elements of unorganized with them being his former friends and people close to him.
History Slideshow
I choose Srebrenica because of how recent it is, yet not spoken about much. It happened during the Yugoslav wars from 1991-2001.
For the research I read articles and watch videos of interviews of people who suffered through it. It gave me insight of how awful it was during that period of time in eastern Europe. Because when I learned about Srebrenica, I learned how it tied into many other events during that time period.
Media Bias Project
In our US Government class we learned about Bias in the media and the subtle tricks they use. They use sneaky biased language, half-truths, and many other things. For ours we used an Ohio Bill that was passed that disallowed transgenders from using the bathrooms of their gender identity.
I worked on this project with my friend Landen Ingerslev and for the left leaning on we used language that suggest this is a violation of human rights, while the right leaning one suggest this is a matter of protection women and children. With the ways we spun the story, it completely changes the narrative. This all taught us to try checking different sources on news stories to see what both sides are saying, to help prevent getting into echo chambers.
Othello FRQ
For AP Literature we read the Shakespeare play Othello. For the mock FRQ we had to write an essay on a villain and how their role enhances the story. For this essay I chose the main character Iago, and I wrote about how his manipulation and deceit affects the characters in the play. I made sure to highlight about how he manipulates people into trusting him, so then he can stab them in the back. Iago often uses his position of power and he tries to get more and more power by stepping over his allies.
His role enhances the story because it shows us how yearning for more power can affect people, and it shows how Iago’s manipulation affects others and eventually gets him in the end.
